In the year 1955, a Hindi poem was published in ‘Jain Bharati’. In powerful and lyrical language, the young poet expressed his innermost quest:

As a monk, you wandered in the forests
Leaving the majestic palaces, why?
What was that mystery, share with us
That you left behind all opulence?

This young man of 20 with his soul-searching questions and faith, found inspiration at every stage of his life. Dulichand Jain was born on November 1st, 1936 at Nagaur in Rajasthan. He was a bright and intelligent student and spent all his time reading and writing.

He slowly and steadily educated himself, drawing inspiration and good character from his father, Shri Poonamchand Jain, a simple and humble man. His mother, Smt. Sugani Devi was a content and loving woman.

The Seeds of Inspiration

As a young child, the seeds of the visionary to be were sown in his heart by his voracious reading. He immersed himself in the writings of seers and patriots like Bhagwan Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Chatrapati Shivaji, Maharana Pratap, Ravindranath Tagore and many others. Years later, as a father, he told the stories of these great men to his children. And now, his youngest grandson does not go to bed without hearing yet another story from his grandfather.

Thus inspired by such Greats, his writing became more and more compelling, as he expressed his anguish at the pathos around him, the grim reality of human situations, and his hope to find peace.

When rituals and ceremonies
Deluded man from the right path
When the winds of violence
Put out the flame of the heart
Then, offering the nectar of knowledge
You resurrected the breath of the world
Oh jewel of humanity
Obeisance to you, many many times

» “Sanskrit Madhyama” and “Sahityalankar” from Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Kashi in 1952 and Hindi Vidyapeeth, Devghar, Bihar in 1954

» He ranked top most in the “Bharatiya Hindi Parangat” examination conducted by “Ahkil Bhartiya Hindi Parishad” in 1954. In the same year, he passed the “Uttama” examination conducted by Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag. After that there was no looking back.

» His quest for knowledge deepened with age and in 1990, at the age of 54, he passed the “Jain Kovid” examination from Jain Vidya Patrachar Pathyakram, Indore.

Family

In 1960 he married Anoop Devi who became a constant source of strength to him. She is not just a perfectionist homemaker; she is also a lover of good literature. In his own words, she is his most interested listener and constructive critic. And just like him, an avid reader and a great storyteller herself.
